After four years, Rock on the Mount has steadily grown into an full-fledged rock event. But there’s more work to be done. Mountain Bible Church, which has hosted the event for these four years, is looking to partner with other churches, sharing the responsibility of planning the event. We want the event to be more successful, more thoroughly developed.

Here’s what we are looking for –

Two or three other churches to co-host, organize and promote the event

Two or three other people to handle the various tasks

More bands, more variety

If you or your church is interested, please contact Mark Adams at netadams @ gmail OR click the “contact” link in the top-menu bar.

For the last four years, proceeds from donations and concessions at Rock on the Mount have benefitted various projects, mission fields and Bible camps. This year, we are dedicated to the Teleqan Well Project. As event organizer, I find it difficult to express what the project is all about (I don’t know why; I am simply overwhelmed by a larger sense of purpose). Yes, it is about bringing clean water to a community in desperate need of clean water… but it is much more. This project is “cosmic.” Here we are in California, preparing for a rock festival, preparing for a good time, but God is preparing so much more. He invites us to partake with his Son in his glorious work.

The well we install in West Africa offers a predominantly Islamic community a chance to taste the Waters of Life, Christ Jesus himself, as well as enjoy clean, safe drinking water. I am awestruck. But I have not done this story justice…

Please take a moment to read about the well project. My church, Mountain Bible Church, has put together a brochure describing the project, and we offer it here. Download:

Safe, clean drinking water is scarce. Perhaps not here in the United States, where clean water can be purchased everywhere, but in most of the world, clean water is scarce.

Featuring several exciting acts (Johannes and Take No Glory, to name two), Rock on the Mount represents one church’s effort to raise money for a well in West Africa. For the past several years, representatives from Mountain Bible Church in Los Gatos, California have found friends in that region. We’ve also learned — firsthand — how they live, and what their needs are.

Already, through Mountain Bible, micro-loans are being offered in several communities in West Africa, working through representatives in those communities. A further need, clean water, also presses on our hearts.

Rock on the Mount, May 15, is a free event, but we are seeking $5 donations. All money raised will go directly to the project — there are no administrative fees as people are volunteering their time to maintain the project. This event is perfect for youth groups, college groups and groups of friends.

We hope to see you there. To contact the event organizer, press here.

This three-piece combo will perform original music by the youth pastor, which is featured at GospelDays.com, and one or two covers. Drawing on several New Testament themes, their set will include a few based on the life and message of John the Baptist. Other songs include “Lord Jesus Christ,” based on an ancient Christian prayer — “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner.” Though Mark’s sound falls more into the category of folk music, with Zander on bass and Michael on drums, the sound of Underground Apocalypse will rock.

An up-and-coming Fremont band has been added to the line-up — I’ve Died Daily. The band has just begun gigging, and they are promoting their new EP. Here’s a bit about the band:

God pieced together this band. It started out with Chris and Sean one evening at a mutual friend’s house. Before this encounter they were nothing more than acquaintances. That night, Sean revealed to Chris that he was into writing music and Chris responded in kind. About a week later Sean and Chris get together for the first time and begin writing music.

Fast forward six months — Chris and Sean have written a handful of songs and have grown in their friendship. Recognizing how much God has inspired them and how much they have seen God move in their lives, they decide to being auditioning musicians in preparation for shows. They drew up a list of friends they know that could potentially fill out the ranks of the band which is almost immediately obsolete.

Enter Robert. Robert and Chris worked together yet hadn’t invested time getting to know each other because they were in different departments. A coworker of theirs, being new to Christianity and excited, asks around the lunch table if everyone sitting there were Christians. Robert and Chris both declare Jesus as Lord of their lives and the ball starts rolling. Robert and Chris, now having something other than work in common, begin to chat it up. The conversation turns to music. They realize they have similar tastes in music and the revelation that both are musically inclined inspires Chris to have Robert come and audition.

Sean and Chris are quickly impressed with Robert’s talent and offer him a position in the band. He accepts the role and the trio being practicing and writing together. A few weeks later Ron “The Kid” gets tapped to come and audition for drums. All the current members of IDD are blown away with his gifts and he quickly gets added to the mix. Ron opens his home as a place to practice and the band really beings to pick up steam. Mid October 2009 Chris and “The Kid” start headhunting Jason Nawahine. Both Chris and Ron attend the same church as Jason and have seen his talent on many instruments. After some prayer and petitioning Jason gets added as bassist. Since the band started, many doors have opened and “I’ve Died Daily” has had 2 songs featured on “From the Dark” radio and has made some great connections throughout the music industry. “We are all excited to see God move and want nothing more than to serve His will with this brotherhood/ministry with all the days He grants us.”

Sitting on my desk is a 32 oz. bottle of water. I’ve gotten in the habit of filling it each morning, and quaffing it during the day. It’s mountain water, drawn from a spring in the Santa Cruz mountains. On days I forget to bring it, I’m forced to pay a buck and a quarter for a bottle of water from the vending machine. I don’t often forget.

Having easy access to water is something we take for granted. Yeah, we can talk about water pollution — it’s a serious issue in America — but, on the whole, our water is quite clean, quite safe. And there’s so much of it.

It pours from our taps. It’s sold in grocery stores. Kids get it from garden hoses. But in most of the world, it’s not so easy to get. The idea that I would have to walk two or three miles to get a bucket of water is just amazing. Yet, in most places in the world, people do just that — and not just in times of catastrophe, but every day.

You and I aren’t going to solve the water problem in a day. One concert isn’t going to populate the world with wells. But we can make a difference.

On May 15, several bands will rock the mount, and we’ll be accepting donations for a water project in West Africa, to install one well in a community of 5,000. It’s only one well, but it’s well within our reach. We can do this.

We encourage all to be a part of the experience.

For more on the well, read here.

Hayward-based Raised Threshold will rock with us May 15, joining Underground Apocalypse and Johannes in the lineup. (Stay tuned for additional announcements as we add two or three more groups.) Raised Threshold is a new band, and they are working on their debut album which they hope to have available soon. Here’s a bit from their MySpace:

When we realize how life’s story has gone, we see it as incomplete. Half a Page Written, Half a Page Read is the story of the ordinary man walking down the dark road of bitterness and despair who has come to the realization that life is incomplete—and divine intervention is required to fulfill his need. The members of Raised Threshold have come together with a single mind to spread the message of hope, love, salvation and completion that is in Jesus Christ. With the coming release of their first album since their formation in early 2007, Raised Threshold desires that their music will tell the story to the world.
